The Crisis

Today, nearly one billion people – about one in eight – lack access to clean water. More than twice that many, 2.5 billion people, don’t have access to a toilet.Nearly 3.4 Million people die each year from water, sanitation and hygiene related causes. The vast majority of these deaths…are children. “Almost 10% of the global disease burden could be prevented by improving water supply, sanitation, hygiene and management of water resources”  The World Health Organization, Safer Water, Better Health 2008 1.5 Million deaths occur each year, again mostly children, from water-borne diseases like Cholera, Typhoid and Dysentery.
